RESPONSE TO TRUMP ELECTION – “We Warned You In 2016”

We Warned you in 2016

that over half of America (outside of California)

likes Trump and what he stands for

Nobody wanted to hear that.

The news said Don’t Calexit, join the Resist movement. They said it is possible to work within the Federal system to stop Trump and protect California

They said that Trump was an aberration, a fluke, put into place by a foreign government and in no way representative of anything more than a small hard-core minority.

Those were all lies.

Hillary won the popular vote in 2016 only due to California’s population. Which meant that in 2016, over half of Americans (outside of California) voted for Trump. It is 8 years later in 2024, and an even higher percentage of Americans have voted for Trump. We also know that Russia had no more than 1% influence on the American electorate for all of their meddling.

This means that a clear majority of America, including California’s population, likes Trump and what he stands for.

NO MORE telling lies to ourselves this time, as Californians, as to what this means.

In 2016, the CA legislature published a joint statement saying they felt as if they ‘woke up in a foreign land’ the day Trump was elected. It is nearly 10 years later, and the values still displayed by Trump are completely foreign and opposed to California values.

Californians did not put their full faith and trust behind the Calexit option in 2016. Now it is 2024, and Trump is back, and he will come with even more tools and skill and supporters than last time. Do we need to wait until 2028 to realize that this is the trajectory of the country we share borders with.

Trump could install 2 more Supreme Court Justices during his next term. That would make the already extra conservative court into an ultra-conservative one. The court has already undone decades of precedent and turned back the clock effectively 80 years on progressive issues. With more Justices, the laws that could be reinterpreted will be even more of an attack on everything California cares about.  What if Trump does half of the threats he made against the Democratic party, America would instantly look like a failed Latin America democracy or banana republic.

I have interviewed around 200 professors of political science on the topic of political polarization, and one of the most frightening concepts I have heard is not that America may descend into a second Civil War, but that America’s quality of democracy may downgrade to a “Brazil level quality of democracy and just stay there for 30-40 years.”

The quality of democracy and government and safety and protection of Civil Rights in Brazil is abysmal compared to California’s standards. What if Trump drags California into a future America like that.  In addition, I don’t like hyperbolic language, but no one in America expected January 6th to happen. None of the 200 professors who study political science expected that event, and weren’t caught off guard. How do we know that something worse and unexpected in its horror, happens again under Trump’s reign.

We gamble with our future as Californians. Everyone knows we are effectively a Nation State. And there is a legal path to leave America, as outlined by the multiple approved Californian initiatives that would have placed a question in front of California voters at the next election, on “if they wanted to peacefully leave America”.  Kamala Harris was one of the California Attorneys General who approved of this Calexit initiative, and Javier Becerra, another Biden appointee was one of the other California Attorney’s General.  Why not ask ourselves that question – Do we want to be part of America anymore … Do you feel safe living in America anymore .. Do you feel that America shares your idea of progress anymore (like you felt for decades).

It’s legal and it’s cheap to file an initiative, for the relative power of this act. Under international legal precedent, having a vote of the people on if they want to leave their host country is considered the first primary step to doing so, in a manner that the world’s nations would recognize.
