“It seems like California is universally hated by anyone who’s not from there. Is this true, and if so why?”

“It’s half true.

California has a large population, strong politics, strong culture, and a very very real diaspora largely caused by cost of living.

Californians live and grow up there, then move to other states en masse and vote for policies which don’t necessarily align with the status quo of the state they move to. They also bring strong and different culture to those areas which can piss people off. New Jersey does the exact same thing, but doesn’t get the same dislike due to the lower population and above mentioned diaspora.”

It seems like California is universally hated by anyone who’s not from there. Is this true, and if so why? : r/AskAnAmerican (reddit.com)
