It is clear now that Donald J. Trump will be (in all likelihood) back in the oval office, come this time next year (2025). As we Californians watch this 2024 election cycle, we must consider for ourselves, and those we love, if we would continue to feel safe or free in 2 years’ time.
In 2016, with the announcement that Donald Trump would be President of the United States, many California based critics turned from anger to shock and then horror, at having realized, all too late, that they were wrong, and that Donald Trump did represent what America wanted, and that a majority of American voters (outside of California) did believe that he was the best representative to lead America. Support for the idea of Calexit (California’s exit from the “Union”) turned up to 32% in favor, with a total of 47% being “open to the idea” according to multiple polls, in reaction to Trump’s election.
In 2017, Californians (and the rest of the world) were told that Trump and what he represents is NOT truly representative of America, or any significant portion of the American population. We were told he was elected because of some fluke or mistake or interference. We were all told that he would obviously be tried for crimes and locked away as a criminal. We were told he would never be a threat to freedom and democracy again. We have had three and a half years of the Biden administration and legal professionals around the country attempting to convince us all that Trump is, in fact, NOT a threat which can not be handled. We heard how the legal system and mechanisms in place would ve used to hold him accountable. We were told that the “resistance” would clearly prevail. Yet, in 2024 alone, Californians have witnessed a man who has clearly committed many crimes have nearly all of the cases against him fall apart, either in pre-trial or mid- litigation.
While some tout his conviction in New York State as the lynchpin needed to prevent another Trump Presidency, it has become clear, given the statement from Governor Hochul, that there will likely be provable grounds for overture due to bias within the legal system and positions of authority. Again, this proves to us that, even when it seems the democratic system of America may be enough to ensure normal democratic practices, it will somehow prevent the solution from actually working.
A majority of American voters (outside of California) chose Donald Trump to be the representative of the entire nation, even after witnessing his xenophobic, and dog-whistling antics during the campaign of 2016. After four years of displaying even more xenophobic fascination focused on many different minority groups, almost half of the American voting base, again – outside of California, would go on to choose Trump in 2020. Now, in 2024, after even more revelations of criminal wrongdoing against the very system of democracy itself, it appears that there may be a majority of American voters (period) who will choose Trump again. After nearly a decade of seeing and hearing Trump in action, there is still an appetite for Trump’s values to represent all of the states of America. Clearly this choice of representative is out of line with California values and with the overwhelming majority of the California people, though favored by the majority of Americans.
It has become clear that the Democrats can NOT prevent another Trump Presidency, and the polls have been increasingly reinforcing that statement.
Therefore, we, at Calexit LLC (home of the Calexit Movement for Self-Determination) have been working away on a plan to help save the 40 million or so of us who proudly call ourselves Californians. With the launching of this website, it is our hope to provide all of the essential information and tools any Californian needs to push for California independence or “Calexit”.
